Uncle Vanya now playing at
the Backyard
Ballroom
 |
For all of you who
need to feel a part of helping New Orleans make a comeback,
you should visit this venue. Come out to see the production of Anton Chekov's Uncle Vanya.
I attended the preview show on Wed. July 9 at 8 pm.
The venue is a hidden gem in the Bywater neighborhood called the Backyard Ballroom.
Folks this is really roughing it, but you get the feeling of
stepping back to a turn of the century atmosphere complete
with the heat and the infamous mosquito. It's located behind a large wooden fence (and beside a large white farm-style house) at 3519 St Claude at Gallier, across the street from the
convent. If I still have your interest and you made it this
far, keep reading to get motivated to rough it up. The fresh
booze offered there will help too.. |
| On preview night
we were served infused vodkas and zakusky, or Russian appetizers.
Jennifer is in charge of both, she promised they'll be tasty!
Yum, they were. They'll carry those bribes over into opening
night, Thursday July 10 also at 8 pm. The play continues, though the libations do not, for that Friday and Saturday at 8 and Sunday at 6 pm. The following weekend July 17-20 follows the same Thursday to Sunday schedule. You can make reservations at 504-948-4167. Throughout the run wine and beer will be available for purchase from Bacchanal, our neighborhood wine store. Thank you all for your support and
the cast hopes to see you after the show! |

"Smart, sexy,
sweet, is all I can think of to say. I left feeling
important, like I saw a special ambiance put together by a
lot of great talent to support our evening night out."
